Travel: Overview Of Houston’s International Airports

There are at least three international airports located within Houston:

- George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Class B) is a hub of United Airlines” which recently merged with Continental and is now the largest airline in the world” and in 2006 was named by the Department of Transportation as the fastest growing among America’s top ten airlines. It has five terminals, of which D and E serve passengers traveling internationally, while Terminal C is exclusively for continental flights. Frequent travelers may be served by an automated kiosk. At the center is Marriott Hotel. Much fantastic artwork decorates the airport: There is a glass sculpture called “Light Wings” by Ed Carpenter, and Terry Allen’s “Countree Music” which plays instrumental music.

- William P. Hobby Airport was, until George Bush (originally Houston International Airport) opened in 1969, the primary air terminal in the city; it is now a focus city for Southwest Airlines, meaning that it is not a hub but offers nonstop flights to non- hub destinations. It does not offer international flights unless they have border pre-clearance. Hotels and motels in the area offer courtesy van service, and shuttle service is also available.

- Ramada Airport has a branch in Houston.
